TRC Biosecurity Plan
At our Board Meeting last night, 12/10/25, the Board discussed the current status of the Equine Herpesvirus-1, or EHV-1, and how TRC should proceed with our own Biosecurity Plan at this point in time. We consulted with Dr. Karma Loughney, a Veterinarian with Auburn Animal Clinic, and one of TRC’s main providers. She is also a Member of TRC. Here is what the Board approved after our discussion…
We will allow our trainers, Kathy Childs & Melissa Criner, to haul their horses in for lessons during this phase of our Biosecurity Plan. That is with the understanding that these trainers have a responsibility to ensure their horses are healthy. We are referring to this as the “Biosecurity bubble” and means all of their horses on their own property have been isolated from other horses - horses shall NOT have gone to shows/clinics, other trainers, vets, etc., and have remained healthy. Trainers meeting this criterion can haul horses for lessons, with extra caution used during their time at the Club. No common water or feed buckets/troughs shall be used. Tying up to a trailer, when possible, instead of the common railings is suggested for further caution.
If this “Biosecurity bubble” is broken, with ANY horse (not just a lesson horse) leaving their own property (going anywhere other than TRC), then we’ll ask the trainers to cease hauling in until all horses have participated in a 21-day quarantine period.
Current Members who haul in horses for lessons and riding will be held to this same “Biosecurity bubble” expectation. That is with the understanding that these Members have a “Biosecurity bubble” on their own properties - meaning that ALL of their horses on their own property have been isolated from other horses - horses shall NOT have gone to shows, other trainers, vets, etc., and have remained healthy. Members meeting this criterion can haul or bring in their horses for lessons and general riding, with extra caution used during their time at the Club. No common water or feed buckets/troughs shall be used. Tying up to a trailer, when possible, instead of the common railings is suggested for further caution.
The Board asks that Members with horses that are boarded off TRC property, and who wish to haul in at this time, provide their current vaccine records (within the last 6 months + Coggins) to the Club. Please email to: trcboardmembers@gmail.com.
As part of the TRC Board’s Biosecurity plan, no “Guest Horses” are allowed on TRC property.
Moving forward, all New Member Horses will be quarantined for 21 days. We may need to open another quarantine pen at some point and will communicate to members if/when we need one, as it would require some potential short-term pen shifts.
We will assess this policy at our next Board meeting on 1/14/26 at 6:30 PM. All Members are always invited to our meetings. In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, please contact the Board at trcboardmembers@gmail.com and we will respond ASAP.
Thank you for working together as a community to help keep our horses healthy!
Sincerely,
TRC Board
